Two premieres and lots of Variety

With “Funken”, the drama department of the Anhaltisches Theater celebrates the first premiere of the new season on September 15 at 7:30 pm in the Old Theater. Author Till Wiebel was awarded the Retzhof Drama Prize in the “Young Audiences” category for his play, which tells of the irrepressible power of solidarity. Furthermore, the text was pre-selected for the German Youth Theater Award 2022. Also on Friday, the Anhaltische Philharmonie welcomes pianist Fabian Müller to the 1st Symphony Concert at 7:30 pm. The program includes compositions by Richard Strauss, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Anton Eberl.

On Saturday at 19:00 o’clock the guest performance series “puppet starting from 18” goes with “SCHÖNER LEIDEN – a couch unpacks” in the old theater into the next round. The couch – alias Ute Kotte – “therapizes” the audience in an entertaining way with the means of puppet theater by means of hilarious, black-humored stories, which do not seem so far from our everyday life.

After two sold-out performances, the children’s musical “My Fair Girls” also returns and can be seen again on September 17 at 11 a.m. in the foyer of the Großes Haus.Nine soloists from the children’s choir of the Anhaltisches Theater immerse themselves in a wonderfully heartbreaking story with enchanting music and stage their own version of the classic “My Fair Lady”: Henry Higgins encounters triple female power.
At 3 p.m., the puppet theater stage in the Old Theater will present “Fridolin and Friederike,” based on a children’s book by Maja Nielsen. The play for all ages 4 and up is about a pair of chickens in love who are suddenly separated from each other.

At 6 p.m., the biting comedy “A Little Calm Before the Storm” by Theresia Walser celebrates another play’s premiere this weekend in the Großes Haus. In the play, which oscillates brilliantly between satire, grotesquerie and boulevard, three actors meet for an avoidant round of talks. Franz Prächtel and Peter Söst are famous for their portrayal of Adolf Hitler, Ulli Lerch was Goebbels after all – even on screen. Since the moderator is not yet here, they chat about their profession on an empty stage and immediately end up with a basic problem: Is the stage really empty? Isn’t it always full of questions before you’ve even stepped on it?

And wouldn’t a Hamlet have to be approached in a completely different way than the Führer? At the same time, the ballet ensemble of the Anhaltisches Theater presents “Sacre,” an energetic evening of dance to piano music by Igor Stravinsky, “An hour full of beauty and passion.” (Mitteldeutsche Zeitung).
