Springtime in the city

The temperatures are finally rising and we are being drawn out of our own four walls again.
Now it’s time to stroll through the park and watch nature blossom or sit in the sun in our favourite café and unwind.
We meet up with friends again and enjoy the fact that the days are getting longer. And while the first lemon butterflies fly through the air, the city awakens from its winter slumber.

Here you are in the centre of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, between the Bauhaus and the Garden Kingdom of Dessau-Wörlitz. The unique Bauhaus architecture characterises the city and is embedded in a beautiful natural landscape.
It’s worth going on a discovery tour – we’ll show you the hotspots of spring.

Parks & Gardens

The Garden Kingdom of Dessau-Wörlitz, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, stretches over 142 square kilometers across the city to Wörlitz. It encompasses significant areas of the historic principality or duchy of Anhalt-Dessau and was initiated by Prince Franz.

Castles, parks, sculptures and the architectural influence from all countries of Europe can be found here again.

The starting point and highlight is the park in Wörlitz as the first landscape garden in continental Europe based on the English model.
Since 1780, further landscape gardens were created in and around Dessau, such as the Georgengarten, the Luisium and the “Waldpark” on the Sieglitzer Berg. Most recently, the Kühnau Park, designed in 1805, was added.

But also the parks in Mosigkau and Oranienbaum were included in the overall concept.

It takes more than one day to visit all the parks. You can make beautiful tours to the individual parks by bicycle. All parks are connected in the signposted Garden Kingdom Route “Fürst Franz”.
The Dessau-Wörlitz railroad offers the fastest route between the two cities.
