The weekend at the theatre

On 19 April at 7 pm, the puppet theatre play “Dearest Sister” can be seen on the studio stage of the Altes Theater. In Karin Eppler’s version of the story of the two royal rivals Mary Stuart and Elizabeth Tudor, Kerstin Dathe slips into the roles of the two half-sisters. Based on historical letters and Stefan Zweig’s novel “Maria Stuart”, the timeless duel is brought to the stage in a concentrated and exciting form for everyone aged 15 and over. At 7.30 pm, three actors duel in a verbally black-humorous manner in the main theatre.

In the comedy “Ein bisschen Ruhe vor dem Sturm” by Theresia Walser, the three come together for an announced talk show. Even before the presenter arrives, they start a heated discussion about acting, staging styles and the portrayability of Hitler. Immediately after the performance, there is a follow-up discussion with the actors and the dramaturge in the foyer of the theatre.
At the “Dessauer Schäferstündchen”, Alexander G. Schäfer will welcome actress Angelika Waller, who was a member of the Berliner Ensemble for 26 years and appeared in Kurt Maetzig’s socially critical film “Das Kaninchen bin ich”, the TV film “Rotfuchs” and the TV multi-part “Johann Sebastian Bach”, among others, to the Altes Theater on Saturday at 4 pm. There are still some tickets left for the event. Stefano Giannetti’s highly acclaimed dance and music theatre piece “Ritus” can be seen for the last time at 5 pm in the Großes Haus.

In addition to the ballet ensemble, the director integrates the singers of the opera chorus and the opera ensemble on stage into the choreography so that music and dance engage all the senses.

On Sunday, compositions by Bloch, Meyerbeer, Mendelssohn and Prokofiev are on the programme at the 6th Chamber Concert at 11 a.m. in Georgium Palace. At 3 p.m., the puppet theatre play “Der Kontraspatz” can be seen in the Old Theatre for children aged 3 and over, which illustrates how fears and prejudices can be overcome through the power of friendship and music.

Only a few tickets are still on sale for both performances. Remaining tickets are still available for the last guest performance of “Comedian Harmonists in Concert” on Sunday afternoon at 5 pm in the main theatre. The songs of Germany’s “first boy band” such as “Wochenend und Sonnenschein”, “Mein kleiner grüner Kaktus” and “In der Bar zum Krokodil” are brought to life with tongue-in-cheek humour and infectious enthusiasm.
