June Program of the Anhalt Theater

An opera premiere and numerous open-air events at the Mausoleum and in the Garden Kingdom.

The month begins with the premiere of Guiseppe Verdi’s touching opera classic “La Traviata” on June 3 at 7:30 p.m. in the Great House. The tragic fate of a courtesan whose last hope for her own happiness is cruelly disappointed can also be seen again on June 10 at 5 pm. At the Altes Theater on June 4 at 3 p.m., the puppet play “Fridolin and Friederike” will make audiences ages 4 and up smile. The amusing story of two chickens in love tells of the heaviness of separations and the lightness of love.

On June 8, at 7:30 p.m., the Anhalt Philharmonic Orchestra will ring in the month of open-air concerts at the Mausoleum in Dessau Zoo with its “8th Symphony Concert” and compositions by Fuchs, Gulda and van Beethoven. On June 8, 9 and 18, the audience can look forward to cellist Anastasia Kobekina as soloist.

On June 17 and 25, the “Scratch Concert” invites you to sing along with Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana” and enjoy the harmony of the voices of soloists, the opera choir, the extra choir and the children’s choir of the Anhaltisches Theater as well as the Scratch Choir. On June 23 and 24, the silent film “Girl Shy” can be experienced with live orchestral music. Harold Lloyd, one of the most popular comedians of the silent era in the U.S., plays a shy young man in the 1924 comedy who is so unsettled by the presence of beautiful women that he begins to stutter. The amusing silent film classic becomes a special open-air movie pleasure with live music by the Anhalt Philharmonic Orchestra. All concerts at the Mausoleum begin at 7:30 pm.

In June, the Garden Kingdom of Dessau-Wörlitz also attracts visitors with cultural events in an idyllic setting. One of the highlights of the Garden Kingdom Summer is the “Seekonzerte” (Lake Concerts), which from June 3 will offer a triad of a gondola ride across the lakes and canals of Wörlitz Park, a dinner and a concert experience from the water.

Director Christian von Treskow presents Molière’s work “The Citizen as a Nobleman” in a refreshing way on the picturesque island of “Stein” and brings the story of the bourgeois who wants to get to the top to the summer theater stage in an exciting interpretation with drama, music and dance. With three concerts, the Anhalt Philharmonic Orchestra is also a guest at the “Inselkonzerte” on the island of “Stein” with a classical line-up. The Sinfonia from Friedrich Wilhelm Rust’s cantata for the inauguration of Wörlitz Castle, which took place 250 years ago, as well as Mozart’s C major Symphony KV 200, Haydn’s 1st Horn Concerto and the Symphony in C major by Beethoven contemporary Joseph Woelfl will be heard.
