Triennial of Modernism

Program in Dessau 07.-09.10.2022

After the start of the Triennale in Berlin, Dessau and Weimar now each have a wealth of their own program offerings. Here the view goes first to Dessau and then to the Weimar weekend from October 14 to 16. In keeping with the cross-city motto, the focus will be on the local offerings.

The Dessau Triennial Weekend in 2022 will be devoted entirely to “water culture” and “hygiene”. In the 1920s and 1930s, the mechanization of domestic water supply had just begun, especially outside large cities. Only a few homes were connected to the sewerage system or to the drinking water network. As the sanitation of buildings progressed, the associated habits of personal, laundry and home care and water use changed in equal measure.

Exemplary for this are Dessau places and buildings of modernity from the Bauhaus building to the pump house in the Bauhaus settlement Dessau-Törten, but also the waterworks East as a testimony for the water cycle economy as well as the technology museum “Hugo Junkers”, named after the great pioneer of hot water heating.  They stand for social advancement and social progress in the field of water culture.

The different venues of the Triennale der Moderne are connected by music. Whether jazz in the monument, music in the gardens or even on the road in the historic double-decker bus: the water culture of the city and the Bauhaus will be musically staged.

Comprehensive program and ticket information is compiled on the website of the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation.

The Triennial of Modernism is a cooperation format of the cities of Weimar, Dessau and Berlin. Information on the overall project can be found here.
