May program at the Anhaltisches Theater

May at the Anhaltisches Theater Dessau is marked by the “Hamlet” participation in the 60th Theatertreffen of the Berliner Festspiele, for many last sighting chances of great productions as well as the start of the Garden Kingdom Summer 2023 on May 21.
The monthly program starts with the 7th symphony concert on May 4 and 5, both at 7:30 p.m., at which the Anhaltische Sinfonie welcomes flutist Wally Hase as guest soloist. Compositions by Kuhlau, Liebermann and Sibelius will be heard.

Before “Hamlet” can be seen at the most important showcase of contemporary theater in the German-speaking world on May 28 and 29, both at 7 p.m. at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele, there will be another chance to see Phillip Preuss’ celebrated production at 7:30 p.m. on May 12 at the Großes Haus.
For the very last time, the critically acclaimed production of Alexander Zemlinsky’s opera “King Kandaules” can be seen on May 6 at 5 p.m., described by the Tagesspiegel as “An intellectual delight.” Also to be discovered for the last time is the glittering homage to the writer Ronald M. Schernikau called “der himmel ist ja da. der himmel fängt hier unten an.” on May 7 at 6 pm.

Also, the play “The Lonely West,” which relocates the extreme fratricidal strife imagined by Martin McDonagh from Ireland to a post-apocalyptic zombie setting and features numerous pop culture allusions, can only be attended on May 14 at 6pm and May 25 at 7:30pm.

Angelika Zacek’s fresh take on Puccini’s opera classic “Madama Butterfly” can be experienced at the Großes Haus on May 7 and 13. On May 14 at 5 p.m., Stefano Giannetti will integrate not only the ballet ensemble but also the opera choir and opera ensemble into the choreography with a wink of the eye in “Ritus” on the stage in the Großes Haus.

The dance and music theater evening to Rossini’s atmospheric “Petite Messe solennelle” was described by MDR Kultur as “absolutely worth seeing”. In addition, the varied dance evening “achthochzwei – Junge Chorograf*innen IV” will take place for the last time at the Altes Theater on May 12 at 7:30 pm.
Reset Production makes guest appearances in May with the show “One Moment In Time – The Whitney Houston Story” on May 18 at 7:30 p.m. as well as with the two pop shows “Die Amigos – Das große Schlagerfestival” (May 19, 6 p.m.) and “Schlager & Spaß mit Andy Borg” (May 20, 4 p.m.) in the Großes Haus.

The Puppet Theater stage will host two productions for audiences ages 4 and up in May. On May 1, 7 and 14 at 3 p.m., the art fairy tale “Kalif Storch” will feature shadow puppetry with lively comedic play, and on May 28 at 3 p.m., the story of a pair of chickens in love, “Fridolin and Friederike,” can be experienced.
