Getting in the mood for Christmas

08.12.-10.12.23: The Anhaltisches Theater presents the “Christmas Concert”, the Christmas fairy tale “Cinderella” and the play “Germany – A Winter’s Tale” to get in the mood for the most wonderful time of the year

The second weekend of Advent will be heralded by the already sold-out puppet theatre play “Romeo and Juliet – Love and Death in the Kitchen” from the “Puppet from 18” series on Friday at 7 pm on the studio stage of the Old Theatre. At 7.30 pm, the curtain will then rise in the main theatre for the Anhaltisches Theater’s traditional “Christmas Concert”, for which remaining tickets are still available. While the opera choir and extra choir perform sacred music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Karl Jenkins and Francis Poulenc together with soprano Bogna Bernagiewicz in the first part, the stage is transformed into a revue stage in the second part:

The children’s ballet dances to music by Franz Lehár and the children’s choir performs a short version of the musical “My Fair Lady”. For the grand finale, there is a Christmas carol medley with all the participants and the audience is invited to sing along. For everyone aged 6 and over, the Christmas tale presents the popular “Cinderella” myth in a modern and relaxed way while remaining true to the traditional motifs. There are still tickets left for the performances on Saturday at 4 pm and Sunday at 10.30 am.

Due to the great success of this year’s Christmas fairy tale, two additional dates have been scheduled so that the “Cinderella” version by author Jan Radermacher can now also be experienced on the stage of the Great House on 12 and 14 December at 6 pm.

On Saturday, Karl Thiele’s version of Heinrich Heine’s “Deutschland. A Winter’s Tale”, which has been on the programme for many years, will be performed for the last time in the foyer of the Altes Theater. The final performance of the solo programme is already sold out, but it is possible to purchase the special Karl Thiele theatre evening on DVD for 12.50 euros at the theatre box office.

In addition to the “Cinderella” performance at 10.30 a.m. in the main theatre, Otfried Preußler’s charming adventure of Hutzelmann Hörbe can also be experienced on the puppet stage of the Altes Theater at 3 p.m. on Sunday. At 7.30 pm, the Dessau “Kurt Weill” Music School invites you to the 56th “Christmas Concert” in the main theatre. On Monday at 5.00 pm, the music students will then present their performances for a second time in the main theatre and get everyone in the mood for the Advent season.
