Springtime in the city
Experience nature and enjoy culture – Spring Awakening in Dessau-Roßlau
With blue skies and rays of sunshine, rising temperatures and longer days, spring is also beginning in the city of Dessau-Roßlau. At last we can get out into nature again and the desire to travel increases. Crocuses, tulips and daffodils form a beautiful carpet of flowers in the palaces and parks of the Dessau-Wörlitz Garden Kingdom. In the landscaped parks, you will encounter artistic wild growth, romantic castles and enchanted temples, dreamy forests and natural lakes during your spring walk – experienced as a unique symbiosis of art and nature, architecture and education. From Goethe to Prince Charles – for generations, the Dessau-Wörlitz Garden Kingdom has enraptured its visitors.
The destination Dessau-Roßlau offers even more: Modernism. The foundation stone for a worldwide revolution in architecture, art and design was laid here. The Hochschule für Gestaltung moved from Weimar to Dessau in 1925 and had its domicile in the Bauhaus building designed by Walter Gropius from 1926. At the same time, the master houses were built for the families of the Bauhaus masters. A total of more than 300 Bauhaus buildings in the city invite visitors to discover them, which can be explored on a signposted Bauhaus buildings cycle tour.
The Bauhaus Museum Dessau presents the world’s second largest Bauhaus collection and was named “Museum of the Year 2020” by the International Association of Art Critics (AICA).
