The destination Dessau-Roßlau offers even more: Modernism. The foundation stone for a worldwide revolution in architecture, art and design was laid here. The Hochschule für Gestaltung moved from Weimar to Dessau in 1925 and had its domicile in the Bauhaus building designed by Walter Gropius from 1926. At the same time, the master houses were built for the families of the Bauhaus masters. A total of more than 300 Bauhaus buildings in the city invite visitors to discover them, which can be explored on a signposted Bauhaus buildings cycle tour.
The Bauhaus Museum Dessau presents the world’s second largest Bauhaus collection and was named “Museum of the Year 2020” by the International Association of Art Critics (AICA).
