Open Monuments Day 2026

On Sunday, 13 September 2026, Heritage Open Days will once again offer visitors the chance to discover Dessau-Roßlau from a very special perspective. Under the national theme ‘NetzWERKe: Monuments & Infrastructure’, numerous historic buildings, churches, museums and technical monuments will open their doors, offering insights that often remain hidden in everyday life.

The programme in Dessau-Roßlau is varied: visitors can explore, amongst other things, the mausoleum in the zoo, the water tower, the Technical Museum, the Museum of City History in the Johannbau, the oil mill and various churches throughout the city. The Stahlhaus and the Törten housing estate also invite visitors on a journey of discovery through Bauhaus history with guided tours and exhibitions.

There are also special insights into the city’s technical and industrial past. Talks, guided tours, exhibitions and other activities bring history to life on this day. Anyone wishing to combine several locations can set off on a heritage cycle tour, which takes in various stops across the city.

The Dessau–Wörlitz Railway is also part of the programme. Special trips between Dessau and Wörlitz offer a unique way to experience heritage culture. Themed tours run from Wörlitz station to historic sights and can be combined with a visit to Wörlitz Park. Advance booking is required for some of these events.

Whether it’s impressive architecture, the history of technology, churches, the Bauhaus or previously unknown places right on your doorstep – Open Monuments Day offers the chance to rediscover the rich and varied history of Dessau-Roßlau.

So: open the doors, discover history and set off on a journey of discovery through Dessau-Roßlau on 13 September!
