Reopening of the
Anhalt Picture Gallery

The Anhalt Picture Gallery in Dessau is one of the most important sights in the UNESCO World Heritage Garden Kingdom of Dessau-Wörlitz. Following the renovation of Georgium Palace, the valuable art treasures returned to their original location of 70 years in 2023.
The collection can now be experienced in a literally new light in a breadth and completeness never before possible since its foundation. Paintings from the late Middle Ages to the early modern period provide a rich insight into European art history.

Important major works can be experienced again for the first time in almost 10 years. The completely redesigned reception and service area of the palace ensures a relaxed and barrier-free visit to the museum.

Founded in 1927, the Anhaltische Gemäldegalerie Dessau is based on several older Anhalt collections, mostly of princely provenance. Its painting holdings focus on Dutch painting from the 15th to 18th centuries and German painting from the 15th to early 19th centuries.

The rich collection of prints and drawings includes drawings and prints from the 14th century to the present day. Since 1959, the collection has been housed in Georgium Palace in the landscaped park of the same name, not far from the historic Bauhaus building and Dessau’s main railway station.

The picture gallery has been open to visitors again since 25.12.2023. All information can be found here.
