Live: Awakening of the ussurian bears
Since the end of November, the two Ussurian collared bears Dmitry and Anastasia have retreated to their indoor dens to escape the cold and wet weather. Inside, zoo keepers Sabine Werner and Konstanze Thomas, together with the zoo craftsmen, have made the two bears cosy with hay, straw and fir branches. To ensure that visitors don’t have to do without the two visitor favourites in winter, cameras were installed in December.
Initially, only Dmitry could be observed in the bear’s den via a link from the city’s website, but this week, the link for Anastasia will follow. “We have found Anastasia to be a very caring mother and believe that she will continue to take excellent care of her two cubs. Therefore, we have decided to let all interested parties share in this bearish happiness,” comments Zoo Manager Jan Bauer on the decision. The zoo team is looking forward to seeing great photos from the bear’s den on Facebook and Instagram.
Nicht nur die ersten Frühblüher zeigen das frühzeitige Erwachen der Natur an. Auch Bärenmännchen Dmitry war schon öfters nicht mehr vor der Kamera. Er machte bereits erste Ausflüge auf der großen Außenanlage. Am letzten Dienstag war er dann schon sehr ausgiebig unterwegs, was Tierparkleiter Jan Bauer und sein Team dazu veranlasste, Dmitry wieder etwas Futter anzubieten. „Er sucht aktiv auf der Wiese nach Eicheln und frisst auch das Gras. Das sind beides Anzeichen für uns, dass er seinen Stoffwechsel langsam wieder hochfährt“, so der Tierparkleiter.
