International Museum Day

International Museum Day is being celebrated on May 19, and the Museums of Natural History and Prehistory and of City History are taking part. Visiting these two museums is free of charge all day (10 a.m. – 5 p.m.), as are the guided tours.

In the Museum of Natural History and Prehistory, research associate Dr. Timm Karisch will give a guided tour of his special exhibition “Zoonoses – animal dangerous” at 10 a.m. and tell exciting stories about diseases in animals and humans. In the afternoon, at 2 and 3 p.m., he will take guests in small groups of 10 people on a tour of the collections and a look behind the scenes of the Natural History Museum. In addition, the museum tower will be open all day and therefore longer than usual.

In the Museum of City History/Johannbau, on the other hand, guests can learn about the museum director’s favorite objects. At 1 and 2 p.m., Dr. Carla Backhaus shows her personal highlights of the permanent exhibition during a short tour (approx. 30 minutes). It is not necessary to register for the guided tours in either museum.

However, you must make a note of the special guided tour in the Anhalt Picture Gallery in Dessau on the subject of “Still lifes in the Anhalt Picture Gallery” at 3 pm. There is no special tour fee. Please register by telephone on 0340-6612600 (during office hours (Mon-Thu 8 am – 2 pm) or, even better, by e-mail to gemaeldegalerie@dessau-rosslau.de.
