Garden Kingdom Summer 2023

Look forward to summer, sun, open-air culture: The Garden Kingdom Summer 2023 starts in May.

From May to September, the Anhaltisches Theater Dessau, the Kulturstiftung Dessau-Wörlitz and the Ringhotel “Zum Stein” Wörlitz jointly invite you to the top-class artistic programme of the Garden Kingdom Summer. Gardens and castles will once again be unique venues for many exciting formats, concerts and theatre performances. The programme offers sophisticated entertainment in an outstanding natural setting with lake, island and palace concerts as well as walking and coffee concerts and the comedy “Der Bürger als Edelmann” (The Citizen as a Nobleman) against the picturesque natural backdrop of the “Insel Stein” (Island of Stone).

The palaces of the Garden Kingdom, which was awarded UNESCO World Heritage status in 2000, provide a setting that is as festive as it is intimate for extraordinary musical programmes with renowned artists. The Garden Kingdom Summer will open on 21 May 2023 at 3 p.m. and at 6 p.m. with the concert “Singing on the Piano” at Wörlitz Castle. Prof. Ragna Schirmer will play works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Robert Schumann, Frédéric Chopin and Franz Liszt on the historic fortepiano. Two further palace concerts will take place at Luisium Palace on 11 June at 5 p.m., when the Wallraf Trio will perform string trios by Franz Schubert and Ludwig van Beethoven, and on 7 July at 6.30 p.m., when the Stuttgart Chamber Duo will play works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Reinhold Glière, Maurice Ravel and others.

For the final concert at Mosigksau Castle, the Dessau String Quartet together with Annett Molsen (double bass) and Alexander Koryakin (piano) will present piano quintets by Johann Nepomuk Hummel and Franz Schubert to the audience on 10 August at 5 pm.
