Colorful Easter program in the theater

On Friday at 6 p.m., the dark tragicomedy “The Lonely West” by the successful Irish author Martin McDonagh (“The Banshees of Inisherin”) can be seen in an over-the-top popcorn version in a zombie setting at the Altes Theater. At 7:30 p.m., the Anhaltische Philharmonie performs compositions by Messiaen, Wagner and Schumann in the Großes Haus, the content of which revolves around faith, love and redemption, as well as the spring awakening of nature.

For the penultimate time in the Großes Haus on Saturday at 5 p.m. is the rousing production of Rossini’s “The Barber of Seville,” which impressively demonstrates how lively and imaginative an opera can be. Catchy melodies and brilliant arias as well as tangible situational comedy characterize this 200-year-old enduring success. At 7 p.m., the “Puppet from 18” series continues at the Puppet Stage in the Old Theater with the play “PLING! Kasper mach(t) das Licht an!”, which combines popular Punch and Judy with digital dramaturgy. Counter-gendered and intergenerationalized, the Punch and Judy show faces the transformation into the 21st century.

On Easter Sunday at 5 p.m., the musical “The Black Rider: The Casting of the Magic Bullets” is a modern, amusing and humorous version of the Freischütz saga.
The incomparable music of rock legend Tom Waits casts its spell, while protagonist Wilhelm makes an ominous pact with the devil for his great love.

The extended theater weekend in Dessau will conclude with the imaginative, glittering evening by, with and about the writer Ronald M. Schernikau. At 6 p.m. on Easter Monday, the play with puppet titled “der himmel ist ja da. der himmel fängt hier unten an.” pays tribute to the communist author’s vivid creativity and sends him a dove of peace into the sky.
