Day of the open monument 2022

Sunday, September 11, 2022

This year’s nationwide Open Monument Day is themed “Culture Trail. A Case for Monument Protection.” Once again this year, monument owners, associations and institutions will open their properties to visitors.

Monuments are contemporary witnesses and their building fabric is full of evidence. Historical scars, additions and further developments tell a lot about a building, its origin, its use and the people of that time. What insights can be gained from the monument substance? What traces have been left by human activity over the centuries and through many layers of time? Under the motto “KulturSpur. A Case for Monument Protection”, the Open Monument Day invites visitors to go in search of traces and determine history and stories at the monument.

Bauhaus Dessau Foundation

On this year’s Open Monument Day, visitors* will receive free admission to the historic Bauhaus buildings (Bauhaus buildings, master houses, consumer buildings). In order to preserve these historic buildings, permanent care is required. The Bauhaus Dessau Foundation will use the Open Monument Day 2022 as an opportunity to present the status of the renovation and construction measures carried out to date and those planned. Significantly involved planners and executors will provide a detailed insight into their work and methodology for the care and preservation of the World Heritage Site. In addition, there will be presentations on the various construction and renovation measures of the Bau[haus]stelle.

Cultural Foundation Dessau-Wörlitz

The Cultural Foundation Dessau-Wörlitz offers various guided tours in Oranienbaum and Wörlitz. For children, there is a special invitation for a castle experience tour with the Castle Olympics. Picture search games, riddles and hidden treasures invite them to take a closer look at the respective castle using unusual approaches. Those who have collected four stamps on their “Olympic ticket” by the end of the season will receive a medallion with a Garden Kingdom motif.

The Open Monument Day will be musically framed in the Luisium Palace Park with the concert “…and Sundays to the Luisium at 11:00 a.m. as well as in the historic gallery hall of the rococo Mosigkau Palace, when the Garden Kingdom Summer 2022 will come to its festive conclusion with a concert by the Anhalt String Quartet and Alexander Koryakin on the piano at 5:00 p.m.
