Visit Dessau / Off-season begins – World Heritage Card
Low off-season for the World Heritage Card
The off-season is often considered a quiet time – but this is precisely when the Anhalt-Dessau-Wittenberg World Heritage Region reveals its special charm. With the World Heritage Card for the off-season, you can discover the diversity of the region in a relaxed, inexpensive way, without the tourist crowds. From the beginning of November to the end of March, the card offers access to over 90 cultural, nature and leisure activities – ideal for anyone who wants to experience the famous UNESCO World Heritage Sites and numerous excursion destinations outside the main season.
Whether it’s Bauhaus architecture in Dessau, the historic sites of the Reformation in Wittenberg or the romantic landscape gardens of the Garden Kingdom of Dessau-Wörlitz: the WelterbeCard offers one-time free admission to many of the region’s highlights. What makes the card particularly attractive is that it is available in two versions – as a 24-hour card for a spontaneous day trip or as a 3-day card for a long weekend full of discoveries. In addition, use of public transport in the Wittenberg and Anhalt-Bitterfeld districts and on selected lines is included. This means that destinations can be reached comfortably and in an environmentally friendly manner without additional ticket costs.
The off-season offers an unbeatable advantage: peace and quiet. Museums, castles and parks are less crowded, leaving more time and space to let impressions sink in.
A stroll through the parks in the soft winter light, a visit to a museum without the crowds or a leisurely stop at a café in between – all this creates a slower-paced travel experience. Those who are flexible and don’t like the summer crowds will particularly benefit during this time. The off-season card offers a rewarding basis for varied days of discovery, especially for couples, groups of friends, families with school-age children outside the holidays, or individual travellers interested in culture.
A little tip for planning: as some facilities have reduced opening hours during the winter months, it is worth taking a quick look at their information in advance. It is also advisable to combine cultural and nature experiences – for example, visiting a castle in the morning and taking a stroll through the landscape gardens in the afternoon. With warm clothing and a thermos flask in your luggage, this will be a very special trip that allows you to experience the magic of the region in the silence of winter or the early awakening of spring.
The World Heritage Card in the off-season is therefore not only an inexpensive ticket to the cultural treasures of a unique region, but also an invitation to travel more slowly, perceive more intensely and experience the World Heritage highlights from a new, peaceful perspective.
