Visit Dessau / New city tours for the Bauhaus anniversary
New Bauhaus guided tours
With its new project Unsichtbares Bauhaus Dessau (Invisible Bauhaus Dessau), the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation is offering an innovative approach to the history of the Bauhaus era as part of the Triennale der Moderne (Triennial of Modernism). At the heart of the project are a video walk and an audio walk that bring visitors into contact with the city’s Bauhaus past in places that have often been overlooked until now. The video walk takes visitors to six locations in Dessau city centre and shows how the Bauhaus established itself here from 1925 onwards – from the use of existing spaces such as the Kunsthalle or a factory to the first municipal commissions. QR codes allow interested visitors to access videos stored at the locations and immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the time.
A special highlight is the new audio walk In the Footsteps of Paul Klee. The starting point is the Klee Master House, from where visitors – like the artist himself once did – make their way to the Georgium Landscape Park.
There, the audio walk explores Klee’s intense engagement with nature in several stations and shows how much his walks in the Georgium inspired his artistic work. The tour is complemented by interactive sequences that bring the dialogue between art, nature and digital communication to life.
In this way, the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation has created a low-threshold yet multi-layered communication format that combines historical sources, artistic biographies and digital media. The Invisible Bauhaus and the search for traces of Paul Klee not only highlight how closely Bauhaus and city history are intertwined, but also invite visitors to engage in a new, sensory exploration of one of the most important chapters of modernism.
