Last chance for theatre highlights in May!

While the current theatre season is still in full swing, numerous performances are already coming to a crowning conclusion: the curtain will rise for the last time on 1 May at 4 pm for the scenic and musical opulence of the operetta ‘Der Vogelhändler’ in the Grosses Haus. The last performances of the season will be the dance evening ‘Blaue Augen, schwarzes Haar’ on 9 May at 7 pm in the Altes Theater, the play ‘Meisterklasse’ on 24 May at 7.30 pm and the impressive opera “Wozzeck” on 25 May at 4 pm in the Großes Haus, the premiere of which was voted ‘Berg’s finest hour at the Kurt Weill Fest’ by the magazine Concerti. The starting point for Terrence McNally’s play ‘Meisterklasse’ is the masterclasses that the legendary opera singer Maria Callas gave in New York after losing her voice. “Claudia Lietz is magnificent in the role of the prima donna assoluta [Maria Callas] and manages without imitation. [Theresa Zschunke as the young soprano Sophie De Palma and Annika Boos as Sharon Graham as another soprano […] also give the comedy monkey Zucker and Callas repeated opportunities to intervene and correct.” (neue musikzeitung)

Stefano Giannetti explores the power of attraction that some people exert on us in his dance evening ‘Blue Eyes, Black Hair’: ‘Everything is told with the sometimes shirt-sleeved, sometimes tenderly spelt-out poetry that classical dance offers!’ (tanz)
