Visit Dessau / Industrial Heritage Day
16th Industrial Heritage Day
On Sunday, 12 April 2026, Saxony-Anhalt’s Industrial Heritage Day invites you to an exciting tour of discovery through Dessau. Numerous significant sites of industrial heritage will open their doors and offer a varied programme for visitors.
Among other things, the Power Plant Hall will be open on this day and can be visited as part of the events. Also taking part is the Hugo Junkers Technical Museum Dessau, which will open its doors from 10:00 to 17:00. Guided tours will be offered there at 11:00 and 13:00. In addition, guests can look forward to the special exhibition “100 Years of Lufthansa”. Refreshments, including coffee and soft drinks, will be available. Admission is at a reduced special rate. The museum is wheelchair accessible and has appropriate toilet facilities.
Parts of the Schultheiß Brewery will also be open to the public on this day. Opening hours are also from 10:00 to 17:00; admission is free and there are no access restrictions. Extensive guided tours of the site start at 11:00, 13:00 and 15:00 and last approximately 1.5 hours. In addition, shorter tours lasting around 45 minutes are offered at 12:00, 14:00 and 16:00.
In addition, visitors can explore the boiler house, which is hosting a temporary exhibition, the information point in the fermentation cellar, and the climbing hall run by the Bergfreunde Anhalt Dessau e.V. association. The NEWKID e.V. association provides information about its activities and offers a small selection of snacks and drinks in exchange for a donation. Toilet facilities are available, but there are no accessible toilets. The main guided tours are also suitable for wheelchair users when accompanied by a guide.
A particular highlight is the bus tour organised by the Dessau Local Transport Enthusiasts, running at 40-minute intervals. A circular route connects key sites of industrial heritage, including the Railcar Museum, the Schultheiß Brewery, the Peter Behrens Power Plant Hall, the Junkers Lamella Hall and the Technology Museum. The main station is also included in the route. During the journey, passengers are treated to an expert commentary with interesting background information on the individual stops.
