The diversity offered by Dessau-Roßlau is also reflected in the regularly-held events, which also attract tourists from other regions.

Bauhaus Festival

On the first weekend of September, Dessau shines brightly – at the annual Bauhaus Festival, the colour and light festival of the Bauhaus. A unique atmosphere is created with renowned artists, the town’s aura, the visitors and the different venues in and around the Bauhaus.

The Anhalt Theater opens its doors before the beginning of the festival and provides an insight into the upcoming season with an open-air performance. The Bauhaus festivals originated in the 1920s, when they promoted the exchange of information between the masters, the students and the Dessau population.

Kurt Weill Festival

Magnificent art and great artists are united at the annual festival in honour of the composer Kurt Weill, one of the top events in the festival landscape of Saxony-Anhalt.

Kurt Weill mastered many musical languages brilliantly, ranging from his ‘Threepenny Opera’ to his excellent Broadway musicals. The Kurt Weill Festival is also committed to Weill’s efforts to reach a large audience with his music. Since 1992, the three-week festival has been held annually on the composer’s birthday at the end of February in Dessau and the surrounding region. The fesitval links the worlds of opera and jazz, classical and contemporary music, lectures and off-theatre highlights performed by well-known artists.

Garden Realm Summer

Every year from May to September, the ‘Garden Realm Summer’ offers a variety of appealing musical-literary highlights in the beautiful parks and castles of the UNESCO World Heritage Garden Realm in Dessau-Wörlitz.

Garden Realm Day

On the second Saturday in August of each year, the Garden Realm Day celebrates the birthday of Leopold III, Friedrich Franz von Anhalt-Dessau. Special events invite you to experience the entire Garden Realm.
